Random Facts about Stadiums in India

  • Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan is more commonly known as Salt Lake Stadium.
  • Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium was earlier known as National Stadium and renamed in 2002.
  • Wankhede Stadium is named after Shri S.K. Wankhede, a politician and the secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association with whose initiative the stadium was built.
  • Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium was earlier known as Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium and built in 1883. It was renamed in 2019.
  • MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is named after the former President of BCCI. The stadium is also known as Chepauk.
  • Chinnaswamy Stadium was earlier named KSCA Stadium (Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium)
  • Narendra Modi Stadium is the largest cricket stadium in the world. It has been built in the same place as Sardar Patel Stadium which was demolished in 2015. The stadium is now located in the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave which houses many other sports facilities.
