Explanation
The opening of a soda bottle is not an oxidation reaction.
Rusting of iron occurs when iron reacts with oxygen in the presence of water to form iron oxide. Rancidity is the oxidation of fats and oils in food, leading to a spoiled taste and smell. Combustion is the reaction of a substance with oxygen, releasing energy in the form of heat and light, and producing oxides as products.
In contrast, opening a soda bottle is a physical process that does not involve any chemical reactions. When the cap of a soda bottle is removed, the pressure inside the bottle is released, allowing carbon dioxide gas to escape and causing the liquid to fizz.
Also note that breathing is an oxidation reaction when oxygen is taken in by the lungs and transported by the blood to the cells in the body, where it is used in cellular respiration to produce energy. In this process, glucose and other nutrients are oxidized to release energy, and carbon dioxide and water are produced as waste products.
