Explanation
The albedo of a surface is the fraction of incident light reflected by the surface. The other fraction is absorbed by the surface.
Different surfaces have different albedos. The whiter the surface, the higher the albedo. Thus snow covered surface will have the highest albedo and a thick forest will have the lowest.
