Explanation
Bile is a greenish-yellow fluid that is produced in the liver and stored in the gallbladder. One of the primary functions of bile is to aid in the digestion and absorption of lipids (fats) by emulsifying them into smaller droplets that can be more easily broken down by lipase, an enzyme produced by the pancreas.
Bile also helps to increase the alkalinity of the chyme (partially digested food mixture) as it enters the small intestine, which triggers the release of pancreatic enzymes for further digestion of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.
